Where does our name come from?
Ever wondered where the name Bollibokka Shattuck comes from?
Bollibokka Club was a property on the McCloud River acquired from the various railroads starting in 1904, and then used as a fly-fishing club. The Hills Family started Hills Bros. Coffee in 1878, and had an interest in fly fishing, leading to their purchase of the McCloud River property.
Although the State of California eventually bought out most of their interest in the club, the Bollibokka Club continues operations today. With the buyout, the sales proceeds were used to purchase traditional real estate properties, including the 2140 Shattuck Building. Original Hills Bros. Coffee artwork can be found adorning the walls in the 2140 Shattuck Main Lobby.
The name "Bollibokka" is derived from the Wintu language, the native American tribe indigenous to the McCloud River, and means "black manzanita," the type of manzanita growing on the original fly-fishing property.
